1. I want to get into the oil industry.  Where do I start?

We also advertise in a variety of publications like Upstream Oil & Gas, Hobsons (Graduates) and local and national newspapers. The recruitment team in each location is responsible for processing CVs and ensuring that your application either reaches the relevant manager or is kept on file for future opportunities.

3. What training opportunities are available?

5. Are there opportunities to work overseas?
Yes.  We are a global business with operations in many countries, including the UK, Norway, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, West Africa and Asia Pacific region.

6. How do I secure a job offshore?
Offshore vacancies are handled by the local Offshore Human Resources teams. We engage many nationalities on our sites. When applying for an offshore-based job you will find some very useful information on the IMCA trade association website.

IMCA is the international trade association representing offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies. You will be able to gain further information relating to careers in the oil industry, including the minimum entry requirements/ qualifications for some positions.

7. How should I prepare my CV?
We see lots of CVs and career resumés of different styles and structures but in the main your CV is used to help us assess your suitability for a job.  Therefore it should include an easy-to-follow breakdown of your career, skills, experience and qualities. It is also important to include all relevant training courses and qualifications and updating your CV regularly can help guard against possible shortfalls in your skills portfolio.

Your career history should be presented in chronological order working back from the present day through to your first post. This helps us to see your most recent achievements and is particularly more pertinent and meaningful for candidates with many years of experience.

If you tailor your CV to suit the profile of the particular job that you are applying for, it can help to emphasise the match between the qualities that you possess and what we are looking for.

8. How should I prepare for interview?
The most important thing you must do before attending an interview is to find out as much about i-Tech as you can and if you have reached this FAQ page, you are on the right track! Show that you are interested in the company rather than simply seeking a job anywhere. It is also advisable to prepare some questions relevant to the job you have applied for and also about the company in general.

Throughout the course of the interview you will be asked to respond to a number of fairly standard questions. Consider your strengths and weaknesses and most importantly be honest!  Questions can relate to specific examples or scenarios that help to determine your experience, ability and knowledge. Consider your long term career goals and your personal attributes. Again be honest!

9. Does i-Tech run any Apprenticeship schemes?
Yes. We offer Modern Apprenticeships in conjunction with Subsea 7 in a variety of disciplines, including mechanical and electrical.  The Apprenticeship scheme takes approximately 4 years to complete and incorporates formal qualifications (up to HND level) combined with work place assessment that is competence based.

Good Luck!!
